The shop is on the first floor of a small complex on A.N. Elumalai Salai, opposite the Vinayagar temple, and on a Saturday before the wedding season you will not find a place to stand. Brides come with their mothers and a photograph of a haram; boutique owners come with a list; everyone leaves with pieces that look like the gold in the locker and cost a tenth of it.

What we sell is South Indian temple jewellery and the pieces that go with it, in gold-plated, matte and antique finishes on brass: harams and chokers, jhumkas and bangles, the ornaments for the hair and the waist that complete a bride, AD sets for receptions and plainer chains for every day. All of it is imitation jewellery, chosen piece by piece from the karigars we have bought from for years and checked at the counter before it is sold.

What we promise

• Every product page says exactly what a piece is made of: the finish, the base metal and the stones. Nothing is called gold that is not.
• Every piece is checked by hand before it is sealed: plating, stones, hooks and clasps.
• Delivery is tracked door to door and handed over against a one-time code, free on orders of ₹999 and above.
• Damaged, faulty or wrong pieces are replaced within 7 days, sizes are exchanged, and a person answers the phone during store hours.
